CalorieGram ("us", "we", or "our") operates the CalorieGram mobile application and website (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. We use your data solely to provide and improve the Service for you. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide and operate the Service effectively.
Types of Data Collected
- Account Information: To create an account, we collect your email address. We do not require your real name.
- Health & Preference Data: Information you provide or that is generated through your use of the Service, including:
- Physical characteristics (e.g., height, weight - optional)
- Health goals and targets
- Dietary preferences and tolerances (for goal suggestions)
- Food logs (meals, nutritional information)
- Water intake
- Synced Health Data: If you choose to connect to Apple Health or Google Health Connect, we access specific data types you authorize (e.g., workout data, steps, weight) to display within the app and use for calorie calculations. We only access data you explicitly grant permission for.
- Food Lens Photos: If you use the AI Food Recognition ("Food Lens") feature, the photos you take are processed to identify food items. These photos are stored anonymously and are deleted if you delete the corresponding food log entry or your account.
- Crash Reports: If the app encounters an error, we may collect anonymized crash reports containing diagnostic information (like device type and OS version) to help us identify and fix bugs. These reports do not contain personally identifiable information.
We **do not** collect your precise location, contacts, or other sensitive personal information unless explicitly required for a core feature and requested with your clear consent.
2. How We Use Your Data

- Account Management: Authenticating your access, managing your subscription.
- Customer Support: Responding to your inquiries sent to [email protected].
- Service Improvement & Maintenance: Analyzing anonymized crash reports to identify and fix bugs, ensuring the stability and security of the Service.
We **do not** use your personal data (including food logs or anonymized photos) for:
- Training our own or third-party AI models. Our service providers involved in AI features have also confirmed they do not use customer data for training.
- Marketing or promotional communications, unless you explicitly opt-in to receive such communications separately.
- Selling or renting your data to third parties.
- Building user profiles for purposes other than providing the core Service features.
3. Data Storage, Security, and Retention
Storage: Your data is stored on secure cloud servers utilizing industry-standard security practices.
Security: We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or destruction. This includes measures like data encryption (at rest and in transit) and strict access controls. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Retention: We retain your personal data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. If you delete your account, your personal data (including food logs and associated photos) will be permanently deleted from our primary systems within 30 days, unless retention is required for legal or regulatory reasons.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We only share your information with third parties in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We engage trusted third-party companies to perform functions on our behalf, such as cloud hosting and crash report analysis. These providers only have access to the information necessary to perform their specific tasks and are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it solely for the purposes we dictate. Crash reporting tools receive only anonymized diagnostic data.
- Payment Processors: If you subscribe, payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not receive or store your full payment card information. Payment processing is subject to the respective App Store's privacy policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities or to assist government enforcement agencies; (b) enforce our agreements with you; (c) investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations; (d) protect the security or integrity of our Service; or (e) exercise or protect the rights and safety of CalorieGram, our users, personnel, or others.

Our Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete such information and terminate the child's account.
